business-cardThe best is to communicate once a week. If you have people who respond to you frequently, feel free to send more emails and information to that key group. You will need to test your market. You don’t want to bombard people with sales pitch because just as you unsubscribe to pushy newsletters, so will they. If you send them valuable information they will definitely appreciate your emails messages or newsletters since they will learn new tips, find resources or discover strategies each time they hear from you.

Lost of clients tell me that they can’t write a newsletter or an email message at least once a week, because they either don’t have to time to write it or they don’t know how to write or don’t know what to write about.

If you are really passionate about your business you can probably speak for hours about it with no problem at all. Remember the last time you talked to someone over the phone or in person and just write down what you wrote. Obviously the formality of written dialogue and oral dialogue will be different, but the information is the same.

You probably already have the materials to put your newsletters together. Look back through emails in which you answered a client or prospect’s question. Once you find one, word the question as a title and then tweak the answer and make it into your article. Take your knowledge and expertise to expand on your answer and you will have a great instructive article in no time. It is that simple! The article was there all along, you wrote it without even realizing it!

Now include those articles on your newsletter or email messages that you can prepare in advance and schedule them to be send on a weekly basis to your entire list. It doesn’t have to be long, it can be the tip of the week or you can even alternate between extended articles and short tidbits.

For example: let’s say you have a carpet store. You can write tips on how to keep carpet clean for a lifetime, how to maintain the carpet’s original color, or even tips on cleaning particular stains (like red wine and pet accidents). Your target market will know that you not only sell carpet, but you care about your clients even after you’ve made a sale.

For the past 5 years I have been sending my newsletter on a weekly basis. It started out very short – about a paragraph about my business and services. With time and learning new techniques, I became more confident to write and added articles.

Don’t be afraid of words like articles, ezine or newsletter, just call it tips of the month or tips of the week if you fell more comfortable with it, but just start writing NOW.

Communicating with your list on a regular basis is one of the simplest and easiest way to get people to know you like you and trust you, and then buy from you. Make sure to build a long term relationship with your list.
